Emmets celebrate their 80th year

-

ON Friday night I headed for the Venue in the Imperial Hotel where a special Dinner Dance was taking place for the Kilkerley Emmets GFC to mark their 80th year in existence and a huge crowd were there specially to enjoy such a special night.

I wasn’t too long in the door when I met up with Adrian Conlon from Kilkerley who told me they were looking forward to a fantastic night with the men winning the Paddy Sheelan Shield and the Ladies winning the Division 3 League in the same year.

I then headed for a table where I caught up with James Bellew from Kilkerley and Shauna Foley from Inniskeen who told me it was going to be a massive night and they couldn’t wait for it to really get going.

Next I caught up with club chairperson Kevin McEnteggart from Kilkerley who was with wife Anne, brother Con who was with partner Siobhan Mackin also from Kilkerley and Kevin told me it was a very proud year for the club and they were looking forward to an excellent night with all the men and ladies who had played with the club down throughout the years.

Making my way to another table I then got taking to Darren Geoghegan from Kilkerley who was with Natasha Guest from Avenue Road who told me it was going to be a brilliant night for the club and they couldn’t wait for it to really get going.

Next I met up with Killian Kampes from Carrick Road who was with Nina Sloey from Blackrock who were up for making the best of the celebrations with Ciaran McGlynn from Kilkerley and Sarah Laverty from Knockbridge who told me she trusted her Kilkerley man to give her a good night out!

Making my way over to another table I then got talking to Emma Dunne from Togher and Chloe Williams from Kevinstown in Meath who were up for a major night of fun and had Ciaran Murtagh and Conor Quigley both from Kilkerley there to make sure they did.

After this I headed over for a chat with Tom Mulholland from Donaghmore who was with his wife Leona and he told me that Donaghmore is actually the D4 of Kilkerley! They were with Ciaran and Mary McCreesh from Maghereagh, Mary and John McGeown from Donaghmore (the man best known for making the best gates anywhere in the county), Eamonn and Mena Oakes from Belrobin who were all having a really great laugh together.

Not too far away I had the pleasure of talking to Gillian and Anne Murphy from Kilkerley who told me they were with Colm and assured me it was going to be a good old session.

I then headed for the table where I met up with some of the winning division 3 ladies and they were Blaithin McFadden, Fionnuala Kirby, Lucy Litchfield and Ciara Sharkey all from Kilkerley who were looking extremely well and had their Div. 3 Cup with them and told me it was going to be an excellent night for them and the club.

Looking as sharp as anyone there, I then got a word with my old friend and club stalwart Vincent Litchfield from Kilkerley who was with wife Irene and he told me this was a very profound celebration because the

Dinner Dance was being held on the 6th of March and the club was actually founded on March 7th 1940 in Philipstown hall, so they were going to make sure it was a great night for the club.

After this I headed for another table where I caught up with some of the ladies who had previously won the League Final and they included Claire Clifford from Tallanstown, Michelle Fitzgerald from Hackballscross, Fiona O’Neill from Dromintee, Blainaid Crawley from Hackballscross, Orlaith

McFadden from Kilkerley and Eimear Geoghegan from Ballinurd who were getting together for a chat and a laugh and couldn’t wait for the evening to really get going.

Making my way over to another table I then got talking to Margaret Quigley from Kilkerley who was with her husband Willie who told me he had played with the club over five decades! They were enjoying the company of Paul Sharkey, Yvonne and Dave Quigley, Niamh Duffy and Cillian Quigley all from Kilkerley, Cillian is of course the ace goalkeeper with the club and integral part of their success this year.

After this I headed over for a chat with Eamonn Kelly and Sinead Whelehan, Sean and Ciara McElroy all from Kilkerley and the lads told me they had played with the club and were looking forward to evening with all the greats.

Next I met up with Dan McKeown from Rathmore Cottages who said this was going to be a brilliant night and couldn’t wait for it to really get going.

Finally, before I departed I met up with Gerry McFadden from Kilkerley whom I hadn’t met since that epic Dominics night a couple of years ago. This time he was being led astray by Mark Clifford from Tallanstown and Dave Fitzgerald from Hackballscross, or was that Sheelagh, who have their links with Cahersiveen and Clare, but didn’t want to mention them on such a special night for Kilkerley Emmets.
