Head coach won’t be co

DUNDALK FC boss Vinny Perth has declined to comment on the current stoppage in the League of Ireland as a result of the coronavirus and says he will not be speaking on the matter until football resumes.

The Argus contacted the 43-year-old at the weekend to get his views on the current situation the league and club found itself in, but he said he would not be discussing it.

Dundalk FC did issue a statement on Friday outlining that Oriel Park would be closed until March 29th, with staff working from home.

While the club’s players were due to train on Saturday, this was cancelled, with a session planned for Monday morning also put off, with players told to train from home.

The club statement read: ‘On Thursday afternoon, after consultation with the Government, the Department of Health and UEFA, the FAI announced that it was suspending all football activities until March 29th due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

‘As a result, our upcoming SSE Airtricity League games against St Patrick’s Athletic, Bohemians and Waterford have been postponed, along with all academy and girls’ team matches.

‘It is obviously disappointing that the season has been put on hold, but everybody at Dundalk FC recognises that this is a matter bigger than sport and we all need to play our part in slowing the spread of the coronavirus.

‘As a result, we would like to inform supporters that we are taking the necessary precautions. The main office and merchandise store at Oriel Park have been closed until further notice and all staff have been instructed to work from home, where possible.

‘Our online merchandise store will remain open and any enquiries can be made through the club’s various social media channels.

‘New dates for the postponed games will be confirmed as soon as possible, based on discussions with the FAI and any further guidance from the Government. Further informa
