Masks for Louth have coffee with Coffey

- BY MARGARET RODDY

Who better to host a virtual coffee morning that Dundalk Cllr Emma Coffey. The Fianna Fail councillor named her event, which took place on the Bank Holiday Monday Coffee with Coffey and invited Tina McDonnell and Caroline Sheelan from Masks For Louth to talk about their wonderful work in making cotton masks for frontline staff around the county,

‘ The first virtual Coffee with Coffee morning went really well,’ says Cllr Coffeey. ‘We had a great chat with Tina and Caroline from masks for Louth who informed us all that in three weeks they have made over 2000 masks with over 60 sewers all over the county. McEvoys are supplying the material at a below cost rate, elastic is so expensive as can only be bought at cost so the bulk of their money is going on that. A lot of local people and business are delivering the masks all over the county for free to help them.’

‘I think its such an absolutely wonderful cause and the fact that this was only organised by a small group of people three weeks ago to help our front line staff in hospitals, care homes and carers in the community is absolutely amazing and an absolute credit to all involved,’ she continues.

She points out that if people want to donate to the cause there is a go fund me page and that people canoffer help with sewing, materials or delivery by contacting the group at masksforlouth@gmail.com or through thier Facebook page Masks For Louth or on Instagram @MasksForLouth. All the proceeds are going on the materials.

‘ The ladies told me on Monday morning that not only are they inundated with orders for the county but other counties are now requesting the masks, in the battle against covid 19 and to ensure our front line staff have PPE equipment.’
