Dundalk Gardai pay tribute to Detective Colm Horkan

-

‘WE in the Louth Garda Division, and specifically in Dundalk district know the pain and feelings of loss that our colleagues in Roscommon and Mayo are experiencing.’

The words of Chief Supt. Christy Mangan echoed at a memorial service for Detective Garda Colm Horkan, to mark the State funeral on Sunday.

‘ The funeral of Det. Garda Horkan brings back those vivid memories from 2015 and 2013, when we tried to comprehend the sudden and senseless loss of Tony and Adrian. Unfortunately we are all too familiar with the dangers that we as members of An Garda Siochana face every time we take up duty to protect and serve.’

He added: ‘ The tributes paid to Colm Horkan over these past few days, reflect the feelings of the country, and the strong bond between An Garda Siochana, and the community we are proud to serve.’

‘ Today is a time to remember Colm, and all of our colleagues who have lost their lives ensuring that we can all continue to live ours in peace.’

The Chief Supt said: ‘Our commitment and dedication to the local community is demonstrated on a daily basis as members go quietly about doing their duty in order to ensure all can sleep safely in their bed.’

He added: ‘ The Gardai in the Louth division have been at the forefront in helping local communities to cope with the unprecedented circumstances and will continue to do so.’

Speaking to Gardai who assembled at Dundalk Garda Station, and at other stations across Louth, Chief Supt. Managan said: ‘As we approach the centenary of this great organisation, I ask that each and every one of you wear your uniform or carry your Garda identification with pride. Contine to do the best you can, and serve the community to the best of your abilities.’

‘Finally I salute Colm and you all for the dedicated service you provide.’
