Paddy ran successful shoe shop in Demesne
Paddy McIntyre 1930-2020
THE death has occurred of Paddy McIntyre, Mount Avenue, Dundalk who passed away peacefully under the wonderful care of the staff at Maynooth Community Care Unit on 21 May, 2020.
Paddy, the youngest in a family of six, was born in Kilcrossduff, Shercock, Co Cavan in 1930.
Throughout his life Paddy worked in the retail drapery and footwear area, serving his time in Shercock, then moving on to Arva, Kells and Carrickmacross.
While working in Connolly’s Shoes in Carrickmacross, he met Anna and following their marriage in 1960 they moved to Dundalk and set up home in McDermott’s Terrace.
Paddy worked in Bargain Bootstores in Bridge Street, for a few years.
It was his hard work ethos and determination that led him then to open his own footwear shop in 1971 in the Demesne Buildings where he traded successfully and built up a loyal customer base.
Paddy and Anna moved around the corner to Mount Avenue in 1974 where they raised their four children.
Paddy’s interests included golf and he was a member of Mannan Castle Golf Club. He was also an avid GAA fan and followed his native Cavan and Louth teams.
Paddy was a family man, being hugely supportive to his children, and had a particularly close bond with his grandchildren.
A sociable and witty man by nature, he loved to meet up with his friends to chat and share a joke or two.
Paddy retired in 1997 and was pre-deceased
by his wife Anna in 1998.
Paddy is survived by his children, Gerry, Catriona, Anne and Elaine, his grandchildren, Conor, Ciarán, Anna, Eimear, Ciara and Tomás, sons-in-law, Kieran, Dónal, daughter in law, Deirdre, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.
Over the years, through his work and social activities, Paddy acquired a wide circle of friends along his journey. He will be very sadly missed by his family and friends.
