Louth GAA clubs to host 30 Cúl Camps

- JOHN SAVAGE

LOUTH GAA will host 30 Cúl Camps this summer as the Association continues to plot a comeback from the COVID-19 crisis.

The ever-popular camps seemed unlikely to even take place a few short weeks ago, but the accelerated unwinding of coronavirus restrictions means the first camps will kick off on 20 July, spanning a five-week period.

Recent developments with the Government and GAA roadmaps, and extensive planning relating to health and safety, mean details for this year’s camps have now been confirmed. In line with the Safe Return to Gaelic Games Document, children will be welcomed back to club venues around the country from July 20th.

St Mochta’s, Oliver Plunketts and Dundalk Gaels will host camps on the first week, and the County Board is hopeful the majority of camps can proceed without the need to restrict numbers.

While the camps themselves are starting a little later than usual a new Cúl Camp TV programme will air on TG4 will get kids warmed up from June 29th.

This first phase of camp activity will be broadcast Monday to Friday from 10.25 to 11.00am and repeated at 5.15pm from June 29th to July 17th. It will also be available on the TG4 player making the return to camp activity, both live and on demand, available to everyone at home and abroad.

The series will include skills, drills, games, nutrition, and wellness segments that will appeal to all the family from multiple All-Ireland winning Cork Camogie and Football star, Rena Buckley, Dublin hurler Liam Rushe and former Donegal footballer star Kevin Cassidy.

A list of all venues and booking details is now available on the Cúl Camp website gaa.ie/kelloggsculcamps.

Prices are as follows: First child €65, second child €60, third and subsequent child €50.

All participants will receive the popular Kellogg’s GAA Cúl Camps kit, but this year, with some camps likely to be restricted to a certain number of entrants, the gear will also be available for sale online.
