Charges struck out after €500 donation

-

After he made a €500 donation to the Garda Benevolent Fund, a 35-year-old welder has had struck out two public order charges.

Aleksandrs Lubimovs, 22 Patrick Street, Dundalk, pleaded guilty to being intoxicated in public and engaging in threatening, abusive and insulting behaviour in Clanbrassil Street on 30 May last.

The court heard about an intoxicated male drinking from a small bottle which he then refused to hand over to gardaí.

He told the officers to

‘f **k off ’.

There are no previous convictions.

Apologies were extended on behalf of the defendant. This was out of character.

Lubimovs has a twelveyear-old son and is getting the €350 pandemic payment before returning to work on 29 June.

Judge Miriam Walsh was told he gets €450 per-week as a welder, and is ten years in Ireland.

‘ Your proficiency of English is fantastic. You told gardaí to ‘f **k off ’. You do not say ‘f **k off ’ to the guards,’ the judge said.

The defendant replied that he understood.

Legal aid was granted.
