Fined €500for public order

A 33-year-old man has been fined a total of €500 for public order offences after he was encountere­d by gardaí drinking a can of beer in the early hours of the morning.

William Dundon, 66 Dungormley Estate, Newtownham­ilton, Co. Armagh, pleaded guilty to being intoxicate­d in a public place and engaging in threatenin­g, abusive and insulting behaviour at Old Newry Road, Dundalk, on 24 June.

Last Wednesday’s sitting of the district court heard that earlier that same morning, at 4.45am, the defendant was highly intoxicate­d.

He was drinking from a can of beer, and told the guards to ‘f **k off ’.

There are 37 previous conviction­s.

Solicitor James MacGuill added his client is in a relationsh­ip, and has a young child. He is unemployed.

Mr MacGuill apologised on Dundon’s behalf, and sought credit for his immediate plea of guilty.

Judge Miriam Walsh imposed a €250 fine on each charge.

Legal aid was granted.
