Students feted at environment bash
June 2000
ST Gerard’s Hall in Dundalk is the venue for the post-primary schools environment competition awards.
Students and teachers are praised for their participation in an event organised by Louth local authorities.
Louth county council chairman Peter Savage quotes the words of Paula Kirk, Carlingford, who studied Environmental Science and has a Masters in Energy and Sustainable Development.
‘Your mission is to change the world! By making small changes in your lifestyle you can make a big difference to the environment.’
Cllr Savage gives the students examples of things they could do, like swithcing off lights when leaving a room, walking, cycling and taking the bus to school.
He also notes that of 1,008 litter fines in Louth last year, some had been to second-level students; and urges them not to drop liiter and not to be afraid to report those who do.
