Margaret extended a warm welcome to all

-

The death has taken place of Margaret Matthews, Whiterath, Dromiskin.

Aged 86, she passed away on 9 May, 2020.

A daughter of the late Nan McShane, Margaret was an only child and lived all her life in Dromiskin, where she was devoted to her own family, and later delighted at the arrival of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She attended St Peter’s National School, and then went to work in the Tweed factory in Dundalk until her marriage to Brendan Matthews.

They had five children,

John, Peter, Ann, Teresa and the late Brendan.

Her husband died in 2007. A very pleasant lady, Margaret loved when visitors called to her house for a chat and a cup of tea. She was a very homely person.

She also looked forward to holidays in Ireland and the Canary Islands.

Margaret enjoyed gardening, cooking and reading books. She had a great memory.

A good friend and neighbour, there was nothing she wouldn’t do for anyone. Margaret was always willing to help out.

After raising her own family, she was thrilled when grandchildren and great-grandchildren came along. She adored them all.

Margaret is survived by her sons, daughters, sonsin-law, daughters-in-law, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, relatives and friends.

The funeral Mass was celebrated in St Peter’s Church, Dromiskin by parish priest Fr Patrick McEnroe. He also gave a fitting eulogy.

Grand-daughter, Karen Dolan, read the poem ‘Clock of Life’; while beautiful music and singing added to the ceremony.

Burial took place afterwards in Dromiskin cemetery.
