CHERISHED MEMORIES

-

THIS picture of Knockbridge Athletic Club was taken in 1985. The club was founded in 1967 by Brian Kirke, who in his youth competed with the Dowdallshill AC.

Brian assembled the children and youth in Knockbridge where he ran his furniture business and formed the club which became a major force in cross country and distance running in Ireland racing in the National Athletic & Cycling Federations.

They competed, almost every week-end, in events held throughout the country and achieved a host of medals in all grades.

The picture shows the Irish international athlete, Rosie Lambe with the medal she won at the SCIT at an international meeting in 1983.
