CLAY pigeon shooter Jimmy Donaghy is again selected on the Irish team to take part in the Home Internationals at Lough Ness in Scotland.

From Doylesfort Road, Jimmy is cementing the tradition of the Meigh-based Gap of the North club providing members for the national side.

He is part of the five-strong Irish veterans’ team, and this is his third successive year to be chosen for the battle against England, Scotland and Wales.

Greenore golfer Glaisne McKevitt (1) equals the course record during the 36-hole Ardee Senior Scratch Cup.

He cards a 68 over the first 18, but has to settle for third-place in the end, one stroke behind Banbridge duo Rory Leonard and Richard Kilpatrick.

That super round gives McKevitt a two-shot lead, but he loses ground in the third nine as the northern visitors make a move.

Leonard goes on to take the top prize by virtue of a better back 18.

1st Rory Leonard (+1) 141 (71,70), 2nd Richard Kilpatrick (+2) 141 (70,71), 3rd Glaisne McKevitt (1) 142 (68,74).

Louth equal their best run in the All-Ireland Qualifiers with a thrilling 0-11 to 0-10 win over a more-fancied Roscommon in Drogheda.

It puts the Val Andrews-managed side into the last 16, and next up is a joust with either Monaghan or Wexford.

JP Rooney proves the match winner, fisting the last point over the bar, but the drama isn’t over.

In a desperate attempt to bring Roscommon level, goalkeeper Shane Curran charges from the back and wins a free beyond the 45-metre line.

He takes the kick himself, but not before kissing the ball and removing his jersey, as he tries to rescue the Connacht county once more.

‘I say a few prayers. I say ‘no’ he’s not going to do it again. I don’t look,’ Andrews reveals.

The manager’s prayers are answered as Curran drills the ball wide.
