Parents present cheque to Daragh’s Fun House

- By MARGARET RODDY

THEY walked in sunshine and rain, with tears and laughter, as they remembered their beautiful son Daragh whose young life was cut tragically short after he was diagnosed with an aggressive cancer last year.

Parents Paul and Colleen McNally from Medebawn, Dundalk set themselves the challenge of walking 200km each during the month of June in memory of their much loved eleven year old and in doing so raised over €15,600 for the Maria Goretti Children’s Respite Centre in Lordship.

Daragh had loved going to the centre so much that his parent’s called it ‘Daragh’s Funouse’.

The staff at the Maria Goretti Centre extended a warm welcome to Paul, Colleen and Nathan McNally along with some of their extended family and friends as they called out last Wednesday to present the cheque for the proceeds of their walk.

‘ The love, attention, care and commitment the staff show to these children is just heart-warming,’said Colleen after their visit. ‘ Daragh in his short life, was so so blessed to spend time out here in his happy place, his fun house.’

One of Daragh’s favourite things to do when he attended the centre was to spend time in the Quiet Room, reading a ‘Pippa Pig’ book. The staff at the centre arranged to have a special reading chair made in memory of Daragh, where other children will be able to hide away from the rest of the world and sit and relax with their favourite book. A special thanks goes to everyone involved in the project including Freddie Gough,Michael Ferguson and Hoey’s DIY Hardware, Castlebellingham.

Donations can still be made to Colleen and Paul’s GoFundMe page until the end of July.
