‘As manager of Harbour View, I was fully aware of the need for improvements and refurbishments there,’ he says.

‘After I had been approached by investors keen to address the need for a completely new facility, it was decided to make a move from Harbour View altogether.’

Twelve remaining patients at Harbour View move to Quarrybanks, which can cater for up to 41 people, with five double rooms and 31 singles, all en-suite.

Staff also make the transition, and more are recruited to cater for an increased number of patients.

The surroundings are nothing short of spectacular, and include a large enclosed courtyard, landscaped gardens and flower beds.

‘We have done everything possible to try to make our residents feel as ‘at home’ as possible,’ Mr Larkin continues.

There is also the option to use their own furniture.

‘ There are private restrooms for relatives and friends who have had to travel long distances and make overnight stays.’

A large dining room overlooks the Mourne Mountains, and services include hairdressing, chiropody and occupational therapy.

Residents have the benefit of a range of entertainment throughout the year, including visits by performers and schoolchildren.

There is an onsite minibus and an ambulance for trips to hospital and back, if needed.
