Crosscause hoping to make a convoy for Christmas

-

The adage we know from experience is true: There is always somebody worse off no matter how low we are in spirit, mind or body.

It is something that might help us through this dreadful time, and show the generosity and care for others in a much less fortunate position for which the Irish are renowned.

Such a great example is those involved in the locally founded and run charity Crosscause and all those who have rallied behind it down the years. Why not help to send out a truck with aid to Romania this month and make Christmas a little special for those in far greater need. Founded in 2003, the charity was set up by dedicated volunteers working with special needs orphans in Romania. It expanded its work into Eastern Europe and West Africa.

The charity strove to bring hope and care to many more needy souls which it has succeeded in doing through dedicated and hard working volunteers. The charity has adopted communities chiefly Nicoresti in Romania and more recently in Ghana.

The charity has built facilities, providing residential care and health and community amenities, as well as organised health programmes, including the opening of eye clinics.

The general level of poverty and need in the areas in which the charity operates is nothing like the ordinary, and every so often it organises to send out a consignment of aid, comprising all sorts of essential goods to distribute among local residents.

Christmas is one of those times when parcels of toys and gifts are particularly welcomed by children and their families who have not the wherewithal to buy such luxuries. Household items for families, including foodstuff, clothing and cleaning and hygiene products are very much sought and appreciated.

The charity over next weekend, November 14 and 15 is to load a winter supply truck at the AOH hall, Cocklehill.

It is asking for volunteers to help load the truck as well as for donations.

The goods needed include: Clothering for all ages. Food stuffs, comprising pasta, rice, cereals, porridge and tin food such as beans, soups.

Cleaning products, such as washing powder, washing up liquid, bleach.

Hygiene products sucha as shampoos, soaps, toothpaste

The donations will be dispatched to the charity’s distribution volunteers by November 20 in time to provide the poorest of people with a gift for Christmas.

As many who can are asked to join in and help with the venture to make Christmas a
