JPC welcomes Brady conviction

- By MARGARET RODDY

A minute’s silence for murdered Detective Garda Adrian Donohoe was observed at the end of the annual public meeting of Dundalk Joint Policing Committee (JPC).

Committee members had congratulated the gardai on the successful prosecution of Aaron Brady, who has been sentenced to life in prison for the murder of the Det Gda Donohoe in the course of his duty on January 25 2013 at Lordship Credit Union.

JPC chairperson Cllr Sean Kelly said it was great to see justice served after the successful trial of Aaron Brady. He congratulated all the gardai involved in the operation, noting that it must have been ‘ horrendous’ for them to have to investigate the death of a colleague. He was sure it must be a relief for them and also Adrian’s wife Caroline and friends that justice had been served.

John Temple of Louth PPN said he knew how difficult it was for the gardai to have to attend the trial in Dublin every single day and he was sure the verdict brought ‘a sign of relief ’ in Dundalk Garda Station.

Inspector Liam Archibald said that it had been ‘a very difficult time’ as they tried to solve the case and was draining on all the members involved. Their success in getting the conviction over the line mattered so much to all of the them in the District.

Chief Superintendent Christy Managan said they appreciated the comments by the members of the committee.

‘ The past seven years have been very, very difficult,’ he said, adding that the trial took seven months which was also a difficult time.

‘ The truth came out and that will suffice.’
