Rampark NSisPark‘n’ Strikechampion2020
There were great celebrations in Rampark National School as the school was announced as the winners of the Park ‘n’ Stride School of the Year as part of the as part of the Green Schools Travel Green Flag Awards and the Big Travel Challenge 2020.
The school was one of eight award winners from around the country announced on Wednesday morning in a ceremony held over Zoom. They received the award in recognition for their Park ‘n’ Stride project which took place in February before the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Principal Ms Julie Carolan explains that they participated in the Big Travel Challenge as part of their efforts towards gaining a 9th Green Flag.
‘We have a Green Schools Committee and we asked as many people as possible to park and stride and walk to school,’ she says. ‘We got great support from the parents for our ‘Park ‘n’ Stride’ project.’
‘During the month of February, parents organised walking buses from different locations. They car pooled and then they all walked to school together.’
‘We had selfie frames in the school for the children to get their pictures taken with when they arrived in school and at the end of the month we had a breakfast morning for the parents.’
‘We are delighted to win,’ she says, adding that they are looking forward to doing similar projects in the future when things get back to normal.
As a category winner they will receive a beautiful trophy, certificate and €500.
