Preparing to perform at Biden inauguration

- By OLIVIA RYAN

Dundalk violinist Patricia Treacey has been officially invited to perform at the inauguration of incoming US President, Joe Biden.

The Argus exclusively revealed two weeks ago that the Biden family had reached out to Patricia as planning for the ceremony began.

As a result, the Dundalk woman has made national and international headlines, and was thrilled to be contacted by a top US jeweller about her look for the event.

‘On hearing my news, top diamond jewelers, Kelly and Martin Katz, who are based in Hollywood called me and offered to dress me in their diamonds for the inauguration.’

‘Kelly Katz is also the former chairperson of the Kennedy Centre for the performing arts in Washington. I performed for the board last year, and wore the Katz jewels for that performance then too,’ Patricia told the Argus.

She spoke of the ‘great honour and privilege’ at being asked by the soon to be ‘first family’ to perform at the inauguration on January 20th 2021.

Patricia, who is originally from Hackballscross, told of the close bond she developed with Joe Biden, when she performed at the then Vice President’s residence in Washington D.C on St. Patrick’s Day in 2016.

On that day, Joe Biden made a very special request of the talented Dundalk musician.

‘He asked me to be his personal violinist! His Irish violinist,.’

Just a few months later she was then asked to perform for the Biden’s when they visited County Louth during the Vice President’s visit to trace his ancestral roots.

And her talent saw her invited to take part in a number of events for the Biden-Harris campaign during 2020.

She travelled out to the US in March to perform for the campaign, but with the Covid-19 pandemic taking hold most of the events were cancelled.

‘But it’s been such a privilege to be here to watch everything unfold, and I am just so happy for Joe Biden for this incredible success.’

The official invite to perform at the inauguration came directly to her from the Biden family, and she revealed that planning is already well underway for the January event.

She admitted she hasn’t settled on the particular music she will perform on the day, adding that she will wait on some further information from the Biden family over the next few weeks before deciding what would work best for such an extraordinary occasion.
