Manhadcocaine andcannabis worth€2,000
A 21-year-old man who pleaded guilty to charges in relation to cocaine and cannbis herb worth more than €2,000, has been remanded on continuing bail for reports.
James Dunne, Shanlis, Ardee, admitted possession of cocaine and possession of cocaine for sale or supply, and possession of cannabis herb and possession of cannabis herb for sale or supply at Dundalk garda station on 22 June, 2018.
Evidence was given that the total value of the drugs amounted to €2,085.
Judge McKiernan accepted jurisdiction in the case.
Counsel for the defendant said that last July in the circuit criminal court Judge Baxter gave him a four-year suspended sentence on two charges of possession of drugs for sale or supply.
The judge was aware at the time, through the probation service, of these matters which pre-dated the charges she dealt with.
Probation reports prepared for the circuit court were handed in.
Counsel continued the terms of the suspended sentence included keeping the peace for four years, remaining under probation supervision for two years, engaging with Turas counselling and random urinalysis.
The court heard Dunne was due to start counselling and had begun a barber’s course.
Judge McKiernan remanded him on continuing bail to 23 June, 2021.
She directed that a probation report and update from a counsellor be available the next day.
The judge told the defendant if the reports were positive and he had not come to garda attention in the meantime, she would consider a non-custodial sentence.
