‘Foods’ McLoughlin fundraiser changes format to beat COVID-19 restrictions

-

THIS year the commemorative fund-raiser in memory of Robert ‘Foods’ McLoughlin is having a change of format due to the COVID-19 restrictions.

The organisers are once again raising funds for a local charity, wit the Maria Goretti Foundation being this year’s chosen charity. Instead of the annual football tournament, they are organising the Foods Run instead. This challenge gets underway on Thursday December 17 and runs until Wednesday December 23 and the team that clocks up the most kms ran or walked over that period will be awarded the Foods Cup for 2020.

The new format means that more people can get involved in the fund raiser this year.

The event is open to all interested, not just limited to the usual pretenders in the teams.

Anyone who wants to take part can do so by signing up to become a team member for the Foods Run on the dedicated ‘Foods Run’ GoFundMe and make a donation of €20.

Participants are then asked to track their runs/walks via an app such as Strava on their phone

Last year’s football tournament raised a whooping €24,321 for Temple Street Children’s Hospital and the team are hoping that will be equally successful in raising much needed funds for the Maria Goretti Foundation which runs the Children’s Respite Centre in Lordship providing much needed facilities for children with disabilities and their families.

The ‘Foods’ team are also organising a monster raffle - check out their Facebook page for details.
