Carlingford Ferry reopens for Christmas

-

As restrictions begin to ease across Ireland and Northern Ireland for the Christmas period, Carlingford Lough Ferry is preparing to reopen its service for the holiday season. The service will recommence operations from December 19th for the weekend and again from December 27th daily, until January 3rd.

The Car Ferry service, which operates between Greenore, Co. Louth and Greencastle Co. Down is a popular crossing for both local commuters and day trippers, exploring the picturesque destinations on both sides of Carlingford Lough. The varied COVID travel restrictions that have been in place in recent months across Ireland and Northern Ireland have proved challenging for the service, and have severely impacted regular operations this year. The news of the easing of travel restrictions for the Christmas season has been welcome news to the Company.

Commenting on the reopening, Commercial Director Irene Hamilton said: ‘Christmas is one of our most important service periods of the year. Many of our customers use the service to visit family and friends or for day trips to the Mourne Mountains and the Carlingford and Cooley Mountain region. Others take the ferry just to enjoy the panoramic views as we cross, or to do a bit of dolphin watching and say hello to ‘Finn’, the loughs resident dolphin! People are always keen to get out and about during the Christmas holiday period and with the Christmas easing on travel restrictions, this year will be no different. The second lock down has proved more challenging for so many, so we’re delighted to be able to get going again and looking forward to welcoming passengers back onboard over the Christmas period’

While the ferry offers passengers the opportunity to leave their cars and enjoy the fresh Lough air during the crossing, those using the ferry are asked to continue to adhere to the onboard social distancing and COVID protocols and remain vigilant while out and about this Christmas season.

Carlingford Lough Ferry will operate from 10am on the scheduled dates, with the first ferry departing Greencastle at 10am and the last ferry departing Greenore at 5.30pm.
