Families missing Christmas trips and special occasions

- By MARGARET RODDY

This week more Dundalk folk who are living abroad and unable to come for Christmas because of the global pandemic are sending messages to their family and friends thanks to The Argus.

Deirdre Ivic is originally from Dundalk but now lives in a small town called Lauffen am Neckar near Stuttgart in Germany with her husband Zoran and their two children Patrick (19) and Fiona (almost 16).

‘Due to Corona we haven’t been able to travel home this year and will really miss seeing family and friends this Christmas,’ she says. She wants to say ‘Happy Christmas’ and send a big ‘virtual’ hug to Tony and Colette, Eimear, Barry, Sorcha and Nicola, Sinead, Ollie, Oliver and Lucas and Fergal, Merrilyn and new cousin Thomas and all their extended family and friends.

‘Really hoping that we will see you all very soon in 2021. Many thanks to all at The Argus for helping to keep us in touch with the news from D’Town. Best wishes and stay well. Love from Deirdre, Zoran, Patrick and Fiona.’

Eilish Kelliher, nee Rafferty from the Marlbog Road in Haggardstown, has been living in New York for the past 34 years is missing her trips home to see her

Mum and family.

‘I try to get home at least twice a year but unfortunately that’s not going to happen this year,’ she says. ‘It will be particularly hard on January 9 because my mother will turn 92 and I won’t be able to see or hug her.’

Eilish’s father died last year and she says that it is hard having to see and talk to her family from a distance.

‘I miss all my family and friends and can’t wait to see them all again soon.’

Wishing everyone a very happy and peaceful Christmas and a wonderful new year with only good things ahead

Yvonne and Paul McParland had hoped to come home for her parents’ 50th wedding anniversary on January 2 but unfortunately have to stay in San Jose, California where they have been living for over 13 years. It would have been their first trip home in nine years so they are doubly disappointed.

‘ We want to wish all our family and friends in the Dundalk area a very Happy Christmas and safe and healthy New Year and hopefully we will get to travel back in 2021,’ says Yvonne. ‘ And a very happy 50th wedding anniversary to my parents Ray and Deirdre Leahy in Farndreg.’
