Two Christmas concerts to enjoy from home

-

Two very different but equally enjoyable evenings of music are lined up as pre- Christmas treats that can be enjoyed from the comfort of your home.

First up is Glas Quartet who are presenting ‘Ceol by Candlelight’, an evening of Christmas songs and traditional Irish favourites this Tuesday evening at 7pm.

The Quartet, comprising flautist Vourneen Ryan, violinist Ailbhe Kirkan, violist Annemarie McGahon and cellist Aoife Dennedy, are inviting audiences to relax, cosy up and enjoy the music.

Having got together earlier this year when the pandemic restrictions brought an end to their regular national and international engagements, the four have been busy making music together.

They managed to record their debut album debut album, ‘ The Lockdown Sessions earlier in the summer in the beautiful setting of Tankardstown House and gave a public performed in Blackrock on Culture Night, September 18, when they played outside Rocksalt as part of a charity night featuring music, poetry and song organised by Conor Hughes to raise funds for Cross Cause Charity and Direct Provision Collections Louth.

Glas also performed a virtual concert from An Tain Arts Centre after rehearsals held in public gaze in a Clanbrassil Street shop window.

Then, tomorrow ( Wednesday) evening The Mary Wallopers are inviting audiences to stay at home and enjoy a Christmas gig live streamed from their home.

This will be their last live streamed gig of what has been a most exceptional year for the folk outfit. While most bands saw their careers stalled once live gigs were cancelled, brothers Charles and Andrew Hendry along with Sean McKenna turned to the internet and began live streaming gigs from a bar they set up in their home.

Their first gig was held on St Patrick’s Day and soon they were amassing fans around the world. Since then they have appeared on the Tommy Tieran Show, The Den, RTE’s After Schools programme and most recently on Other Voices from the Guinness Storehouse, and already have gigs booked for next year.

Their final gig of the year is being live streamed on their social media channels including YouTube tomorrow evening at 8pm when they will be joined by some very special guests.
