DON’T PUT YOUR WEIGHT LOSS ON HOLD - YOUR LOCAL SLIMMING WORLD CONSULTANTS ARE HERE FOR YOU

-

THIS year has been far from easy for all of us, with some people struggling more than others, but for lots of my members all of the challenges and anxieties have actually made them more determined than ever to achieve their goals and improve their health. They’ve proved anyone wanting to lose weight and feel healthier – which research shows could protect against disease – doesn’t have to give up on their dreams! We can’t wait to see what 2021 brings for our members.

Slimming World Consultant’s in County Louth are reaching out to anyone struggling with their weight to advise them not to allow any futher lockdowns to press the pause button on their weight loss progress – or worse still, bring it to a complete stop and/or begin to regain weight – they’re going to find themselves storing up health problems (both physical and psychological) for the future and, potentially, put themselves at greater risk of suffering more serious symptoms of Covid-19. And this isn’t to mention, the feelings of guilt and shame that are likely to come handin-hand with weight gain.

And we also know this absolutely doesn’t have to be the case – it’s business as usual (as usual as it gets in this ‘new normal’ at least!) at Slimming World. Our doors, whether real-life or virtual, are open and we’re here for our members – no matter what. Slimming World members continued to lose weight during this time, demonstrating the power of developing healthy habits and getting support from other, likeminded slimmers.

We know, from research carried out by our expert team, and from direct feedback from our members, that during the first lockdown, many people did put their weight

their weight. For many people around the world, ‘Covid 19’ took on a second meaning – referring to the number of pounds they gained during lockdown!

As a result, many people came out of lockdown feeling unhappy with their weight – and at risk not only of developing the significant number of life-threatening illnesses associated with overweight, but also more at risk of severe illness from COVID-19.

Lockdown doesn’t have to mean abandoning your weight loss though. Slimming World groups are up and running in County Louth throughout all levels – some in their real-life venues, some with a combination of a weigh in at a venue, followed by a virtual group, and some temporarily virtual until lockdown is over. Whatever the format, Slimming World groups are where the magic happens – and what doesn’t change is our unique combination of friendship, expertise, motivation, inspiration and weight-loss knowhow. So slimmers can get support to stay on track regardless and be closer to achieving their dream weight when lockdown ends.

Slimming World research shows that more than half of people found it difficult to manage their weight during the first national lockdown, eating more fatty and sugary foods and drinking more alcohol. This time around can be different – this is readers’ opportunity to ensure they don’t let this lockdown see them gain weight, especially if they ended the spring lockdown heavier than they’d have liked!

Don’t give up! For many of us it felt like the pause button was pushed on normal life back in March, but no one has to put their life on

hold. Slimming World will always be there for anyone keen to keep moving towards a slimmer, healthier, fitter future – regardless of lockdowns!

Excess weight is associated with a greater risk of developing weight-related health problems, such as heart disease, stroke and type 2 diabetes. Evidence shows that people with obesity have a higher risk of severe illness from Covid-19 and could have an increased risk of dying from the virus by 37 per cent. So, managing a healthy weight has never been more important, and it’s never been more vital that we provide a service that supports our members to stay committed to their health and weight loss goals.

Our trained Consultant’s understand that losing weight comes with it’s challenges and can be a lonely place trying to do it alone. You will be warmly welcomed and supported without judgement in any of our local groups.
