SHOW WILL GO ON FOR YOUNG SCIENTISTS
The BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition will go ahead as planned this week, with the virtual event kicking off tomorrow ( Wednesday).
A number of Louth schools are taking in the competition, including student groups from St. Vincent’s Secondary School, Bush Post Primary and De La Salle College.
Organiser of the event confirmed that the exhibition will go ahead from 6th – 8th January 2021, despite school closures and other Covid-19 restrictions.
A spokesperson explained that the virtual exhibition ‘ has been designed by organisers to enable competing second-level students, and the judging panel, to access the online platform from home or their preferred location.’
‘ The public can also access the virtual exhibition, free of charge, and view the qualified projects, exhibitor stands, educational events and special acts.’
It was confirmed that the only aspect of the exhibition that will be postponed is the Primary Science Fair, which organisers hope to reschedule with schools when they reopen.
Nine projects from four schools across Louth have qualified for the BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition 2021.
A spokeswoman explained: ‘ The impact of the Covid-19 pandemic has been a driving force behind a large number of entries this year with a quarter of all qualified projects delving into topics on health and the impact of Covid-19.’
‘Projects vary from topics which explore the effects lockdown may have had on different socio-economic groups, to investigations into the effectiveness of different types of facemasks and the impact of hand sanitizer on our skin.’
