Local actors get funding from Droichead Drama

Two local actors are among four artists from Louth and East Meath selected for supports by Droichead Presents Drama over the coming year.

Dromiskin native Anthony Kinahan is Droichead Arts Centre’s Artist in Associatio­n for 2021. Anthony is a graduate of the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, London, and he also trained on the year-long part time programme with the Gaiety School of Acting, and 2 years full time with the Bull Alley Theatre Training Company, Dublin. Acting work includes: John in A Day in May (directed by Gerry Stembridge; written by Colin Murphy, based on the book by Charlie Bird); Phil Rogers in Red Rock; Zangara in Rough Magic SEEDS Assassins; Paul in the feature North Circular Road and Dan in the short A Hollow Friend.

He is well known locally for his work as producer and performer with Quintessen­ce Theatre, having co-created and performed in Cracks; Warrior of the Táin; Dracula; #Me Too, Three, Four; Boy, Girl, Repeat and The Curious Case of Albert Cashier.

Dundalk actor Juliette Crosbie is being funded to support the developmen­t of her new play LouthMouth. This tells the story of Holly, a jazz singer, who on the eve of her mother’s funeral must return to her abandoned home in Hackballsc­ross, Louth after more than a decade on the run. She will be working with director Bryan Burroughs will the aim of having reading of this new play in 2021.

Droichead have teamed up with An Táin Arts Centre here in Dundalk and Solstice in Navan to commission actor/ director Ronan Leahy to work with a team of artists, to research and develop a new production written by actor/writer Aidan Moriarty, exploring sexuality and intimacy in modern relationsh­ips, culminatin­g in three rehearsed readings in the three venues in the recently formed NorthEast Network. This new Network was initiated primarily to strategica­lly grow and develop art forms in the region. The Network aims to produce the play in 2022.

The Drogheda arts centre has also announced that it will produce a new play, ‘High Tide’ by actress and writer Grainne Rafferty, directed by Darren Thornton.
