Dane another player that will be missed

-

OVER the long history of Dundalk FC stretching back over a hundred years thousands of players from many parts of the country, and indeed from abroad, have donned the club’s colours.

Some make a big impression during their time at the club, others are seldom remembered.

Every so often however there comes a player who really comes part of the club, who looks and feels that he belongs there, and who in turn builds up a great affinity with supporters.

Such a player was defender, Dane Massey who made it known last week that he was leaving Dundalk after eight years.

He does so with a very heavy heart judging by his comments for he said ‘I never thought that when I joined Dundalk that it would take me on a journey of a lifetime’, adding ‘I will cherish my memories of my time with Dundalk forever’.

Dane was of course a vital part of the most successful era in the club’s history and he leaves with a enough medals - five Premier titles, three FAI Cups and three League Cups -- to adorn any home with pride.

He leaves with much more however, for Dane’s family became part of the Dundalk family for his father never missed a match and has mother often accompanied her husband.

They became part of the Dundalk family, mixing with fans in Oriel and in almost every away match, and there are many in and around the club who are very sorry to see the links with the Massey family end in this way.

Footballers by their very nature move from club to club, but many at Dundalk will always cherish the special days they shared with Dane Massey and his family.
