Energy Team has educated over 800 homeowners about energy and renewable energy
THE Energy Team is the operations team of the Dunleer Sustainable Energy Community which was established in 2015. This team has built a strong track record of successfully delivering end to end solutions regarding energy use, educating over 800 homeowners about energy and renewable energy and leading the successful retrofit of 260 homes and community facilities across the North East. These retrofits have resulted in the removal of 2,000 tonnes of CO2 out of the environment and saved 10 million kilowatt hours of energy.
In March 2020, the Energy Team was selected to feature on the Eco Eye RTÉ programme as an example of communities taking responsibility for action on energy. In October 2020, the team won the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI), 2020 Inspirational Energy Community
National Award. In delivering a whole of society approach to addressing climate change the Energy Team recognises the need to partner with local and national groups such as the SEAI who provide the grant funding for homeowners to make their homes more energy efficient and warmer.
For the objective of sharing learnings and bringing academia to the community, we partner with the SPIRE 2 Project at the Centre for Renewables and Energy at Dundalk Institute of Technology, with Louth Local Authority on local and EU projects and with Drogheda Credit Union, Dundalk Credit Union and Connect Credit Union in supporting homeowners to get access to green loans for home efficiency upgrades.
