Praise for Juliette’s ‘hauntingly beautiful’ Snow Patrol rendition

- By MARGARET RODDY

Dundalk singer Juliette Crosbie has been getting plaudits for her emotional rendition of the Snow Patrol song Run for the Saint Patrick’s Day video produced by the Irish Foreign Ministry.

“This St Patrick’s Day, we are highlighting Ireland’s 70 million diaspora around the world and the pride we take in the contributions of our young people globally,” the Ministry posted on their social media channels.

The featured song, Run by Snow Patrol, was specially arranged by conductor David Brophy who also assembled the choir, and was recorded in Ireland’s National Concert Hall, with Juliette on lead vocals.

“I was asked to audition for the piece with David Brophy,” says Juliette. “I know David well as we worked together with the RTE Concert Orchestra on a New Year’s Eve Gala af ew yers ago. “I have huge respect and admiration for his work and was delighted to get the part.”

“I came home for the shoot as I’m now spending a lot of time in London.”

“They shot the choral part with the Trinity Singers in the National Concert Hall, and that took about two hours to do the audio and two hours to do the visuals. They took me off to the Howth cliff for another shoot and that took about two hours.”

“It was one of the most joyous shoots I’ve done in a long time,” continues Juliette.

The song accompanied a moving video showing images of Irish people living and working around the world.

“It wasn’t making a political statement but it showed how Irish people have been welcomed with open arms around the world. It was saying to the diaspora, we love you, we miss you, we’re proud of you.”

The video was played on a large screen in London’s Trafalgar Square during the city’s St Patrick’s Day parade.

“My cousins were in London and I was getting text messages from them about it but unfortunately I was having coffee with someone in another part of London so couldn’t go to see it.”

The video has amassed more than 7.5million view on X (formerly twitter) with the Irish Foreign Ministry saying they had received “an incredible reaction” to it from around the world, and in response to lots of requests for the audio, the recording is now available on Spotify.

Followers were lavish in their praise for Juliette, with one person describing it as “a fantastic spine-tingling and soul-stirring performance”, with another saying it was “hauntingly beautiful.”
