EASTER CELEBRATIO­NS IN COOLEY PARISH

The Easter ceremonies got underway in Cooley Parish on Sunday last when branches of palms were blessed and distribute­d among the congregati­on at all the Masses.

On Wednesday the Chrism Mass takes place in St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Armagh, at 7pm. All are welcome.

On Holy Thursday the evening Mass of the Last Supper will be celebrated in the Church of St. James, Grange, starting at 7.30pm. Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament is after the Mass at 8.30pm until Night Prayer at 10.30pm.

The celebratio­n of the Lord’s Passion is in the Church of Our Lady, Star of the Sea, Boher, on Good Friday at 3pm. During this celebratio­n a collection will take place for the people of the Holy Land. Later that evening at 8pm the Stations of the Cross will be held in the Church of St. Anne, Mullaghbuo­y.

On Holy Saturday the Easter Vigil will commence at 8pm in the Church of Our Lady, Star of the Sea during which the Pascal Fire will be lit and the new Easter Water will be blessed.

On Easter Sunday morning the Mass of the Resurrecti­on will be celebrated threefold. The Dawn Mass will be in Cill Mhuire at 7pm, the Mass in Mullaghbuo­y Church starts at 10am and the Mass in St. James Church, Grange, is at 11.30am.

Breakfast rolls and tea will be served after the Dawn Mass in Cill Mhuire.

CAR BOOT SALE FOR HOSPICE IN COOLEY HALL

The monthly car boot sale in aid of the North Louth Hospice takes place on the first Sunday of every month, this time on the 7th April. It starts at 10am and continues until 3pm. The venue is St. Mary’s Hall, Cooley, (A91DD1F) and stalls cost €20.

The event is proudly organised by the McDonnell Family from Cooley in memory of their father, Tommy, and the April event is particular­ly special as it will be held on the first anniversar­y of Tommy’s passing. To date a total of €5,631 has been raised and passed on to the hospice. The event greatly adds to the attraction­s of the Cooley peninsula and draws a large number of people looking for those special bargains.

CARLINGFOR­D/OMEATH EASTER CEREMONIES

The Holy Week ceremonies in Carlingfor­d/Omeath Parish have been arranged as follows;

In St. Michael’s Church, Carlingfor­d, the Mass of the Lord’s Supper on Holy Thursday is at 7.00pm. The Good Friday Celebratio­n of the Lord’s Passion is at 3.00pm and the Stations of The Cross start at 7.00pm. On Holy Saturday

Confession­s are from 12.00pm – 1.00pm and the Easter Vigil starts at 8.30pm. The Easter Sunday Mass is at 11.30am.

In St. Laurence’s Church, Omeath, the Mass of the Lord’s Supper is at 7.00pm. On Good Friday the celebratio­n of the

Lord’s Passion starts at 3.00pm. On Holy Saturday the Easter Vigil starts at 8.30pm while on Easter Sunday the Mass is at 10.30am.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR COOLEY ALL STARS

As the start date for our Cooley All Stars is approachin­g we are urgently in need of more volunteers due to the increasing number of children attending.

In order to provide a safe and fun learning environmen­t we use a buddy system (one volunteer per child). No experience necessary but good craic is essential!

If interested please contact Laura 0876055151 or Kieran 0868277579. Good Turnout for Table Quiz There was a good turnout for the Glen United Table Quiz which the club organised to raise funds for Motor Neuron.

The club would like to thank Jodie Keenan and all his staff at Martins for their help and courtesy, Martin Keenan for setting the quiz questions, Tommy McCann for checking the answers, all who donated spot prizes and all who turned up on the night.

The members of the winning team were Kevin Smyth, Angela Smyth, Derek White and Melissa White.

CONFIRMATI­ON AT LORDSHIP BALLYMASCA­NLON PARISH

Confirmati­on took place in the Parish of Lordship and Ballymasca­nlon when Bishop Michael Router confirmed the children from the three schools in the Parish.

Parish Priest Fr. Stephen Duffy thanked all who helped in any way; “We congratula­te the children from our three schools who were confirmed on Wednesday last. We ask God’s blessing on them and pray that the Holy Spirit will continue to guide them. Sincere thanks to all involved in the ceremony, to Bishop Michael Router who administer­ed the Sacrament, to Rev. Deacon Dermot Clarke for his assistance, to all the children and their parents, to the school Principals, teachers, SNA,s and support staff, to those who prepared the church and grounds and to all who helped in any way”.
