GLEN UNITED WIN AT MEIGH

Edentubber took on Glen United at Meigh in the North Louth Winter League on Sunday last.

It was the visitors who started the stronger with Ray Steele and David Grey on top for Glen. Glen should have taken the lead after five minutes when Cathal Manning put Stephen Ferguson in on a one two one situation with

Sean O’Hanlon in the Edentubber goals but O’Hanlon got his finger tips to Ferguson’s shot to prevent a certain goal. But on the 12th minute Glen took the lead when David Grey and Eamon Lynch combined for Lynch to score a goal that would grace any occasion to put Glen a goal up. But it was the home side that raised their game and on the 21st minute Edentubber drew level when a Glen McKeown cross was volleyed home by Marty Glee. And five minutes later Edentubber took the lead when Eugene Coogan set up Niall Maginnis and his powerful shot give Ciaran McCann no chance in the Glen goals. It looked like Edentubber would hold onto their lead going into the half time break but on the stroke of half time Glen won a penalty and Stephen Ferguson levelled the score at 2-2.

Early in the second half both defences were on top with James Donnelly and Dan Nugent in the centre of Edentubber’s defence keeping the Glen forwards quiet and at the other end Eugene Murray and Robbie Ball were equally efficient. But on the 70th minute Glen went ahead when Mark Meenan and Brendan McCann combined to set up Ray Steele who volleyed home from 10 yards to put Glen 3-2 ahead. Edentubber piled on the pressure looking for the equaliser but the Glen defence held out and on the 89th minute Glen’s super sub Philip Martin picked up a Chris Grimes pass and coolly rounded the keeper to put the ball into the bottom corner and gave Glen a 4-2 win.

Best for Glen were Eamon Lynch, Eugene Murray, Ciaran O’Hare and Ray Steele. Best for Edentubber were Dan Nugent, Marty Glee and Glen McKeown.
