Singer Cathy Maguire is re-united with her beloved pooch Arthur Hennessy - ‘It’s a miracle’

- By MARGARET RODDY

“It’s really a miracle” Irish singer Cathy Maguire said as she was reunited with her beloved dog six days after he went missing from her Nashville homes.

The singer, who is originally from Dundalk, had launched a major campaign to find her much-loved Golden Cavapoo Arthur Hennessy after he went missing last Tuesday April 2.

Cathy immediately began searching for her dog, who had escaped when a construction worker left the door of her home open.

She posted a heartfelt appeal on social media for anyone with information about Arthur to get in touch with her and offered $5,000 reward for his safe return.

After trying to find him on her own for two days, she then enlisted the help of a professional dog tracker from Smokie Mountain Canine Search and Rescue.

“For the first day or two when Arthur went missing, I was literally having a heart attack, falling to pieces,” she told her followers as she updated them on Arthur’s safe return.

Dog tracker Angela gave her lots of helpful advice as to the best posters to make and they searched throughout the Nashville area, before Cathy got a call on Sunday morning from a couple who believed they had found their dog.

Cathy immediately made her way to meet “this lovely man and woman” who had found Arthur.

She said she noticed that he had a different harness and leash on him and was wondering what had happened, when a sudden “a big massive SUV” pulled up, speeding towards her and a woman got out, claiming that Arthur was her dog.

She said there was an altercation and then the people who had found the dog came down and asked the woman to show photos of Arthur but she couldn’t produce any older than one taken six days previously.

She said that the woman and her companion went to grab Arthur but she managed to get him into her car and that as soon as she saw him the car, back in his own environment, she knew it was definitely Arthur.”

She said that the couple who’d had Arthur were getting violent and threatening her but she was determined that she wasn’t going to lose Arthur again. They had renamed him but when they called his name, he didn’t react.

Cathy said that the situation got really hostile and she didn’t know what to do as the couple were trying to bully her into not taking Arthur with her.

She called the dog tracker her told her to get in the car and leave at speed, so she got in the car and sped off with Arthur.

Cathy believes that they had picked him up after he had got out of her home and he had managed to escape from them before being found by the couple who contacted her, having seen the missing poster earlier that morning.

The singer, who divides her time between Nashville and New York, said she “must have aged about five years in the past week” as she searched for Arthur, who has been her loyal companion for the past two years.

“A truly beloved gift from Loretta Lynn and the Lynn family, Arthur is more than a friend; he’s a beacon of joy and support,” she said.

She is delighted to be reunited with Arthur, whom she described as “a very special dog who has an incredible gift of comforting those around him with love, snuggles and antics that make people smile.”

The adorable pooch not only accompanies her as she performs around the country but also accompanies her as she does ministry work, visiting veterans, sick children, patients and those rehabilitation centres.

As she posted news of finding Arthur, Cathy thanked all those who had helped in the search and also those who had prayed for his safe return.

“It had to be the hand of God., so many things could have happened, “she said. “It’s really a miracle.”
