SEEK mural walking tour app makes the shortlist for .ie Digital Town Awards

- By MARGARET RODDY

A project which allows people to enjoy a self-guided tour of Dundalk’s famous murals is among the finalists for the .ie Digital Town Awards 2024.

Dundalk - Digitalising Local SEEK walking tours is a finalist in the Digital Tourism category. In 2023, Creative Spark FabLab started to look at ways of improving the SEEK walking tours of the murals painted during the annual SEEK Urban Arts Festival to make them more accessible so that people could follow them on their own.

This was achieved by linking the local murals to the wealth of knowledge available on the SEEK website though addition signage to each mural with a QR code that brings the visitor directly to the information section of the corresponding mural of SEEKdundalk.ie.

Now in their 4th year, the .ie Digital Town Awards shine a light on local projects that have a digital element. The organisation provides the pathway for people, communities and businesses to access and unlock a digital world of potential and opportunity by managing the infrastructure that allows this to happen.

This year 41 finalists have been selected out of 150 applicants. There are 9 different categories, with a total prize fund of €60,000. Winners will be announced at a Gala awards ceremony in Sheraton Hotel, Athlone, Co. Westmeath on Friday 24 May 24.

Congratulating the finalists, National Director, .ie Digital Town Programme Oonagh McCutcheon said “At .ie, our purpose is to enable and empower people, communities and businesses across Ireland to thrive online and we are advocates for all things digital at all levels.

“The .ie Digital Town Awards are a celebration of the incredible work being undertaken at a local level to promote innovation and breathe new life into local communities. The awards also afford the opportunity to recognise and show appreciation to the volunteers across the country who devote their spare time working tirelessly to enhance their local area, towns and villages and we look forward to celebrating all of our finalists at our Gala Awards ceremony in May.”
