MANNANCASTLE

-

SENIORS Captain Denis Murphy held his drive-in on Tuesday of last week on a beautiful dry day.

Denis had a very successful drive witnessed by a large gathering of his fellow seniors, accompanied by much slagging and craic.

In the following four-man scramble over 10 holes there was a very tight finish, with only one shot separating the first six teams.

The winning team, by a margin of 0.1 points, was Paul Hollywood (7), Graeme Woodcock (9), Arthur Mulholland (10) and Brian Flanagan (15).

The second-placed team of Con Hanneffy (6), Joe O’Hara (8), Sean Harvey (11) and Gerry Cumiskey (15) were in turn only 0.5 points ahead of the team comprising Philip McGovern (6), Tony Rooney (8), Declan Govern (9) and Philip McEntee (12).

During the presentation the large turnout was thanked by Denis for supporting his drive-in and he hoped to see them all enjoy a friendly round of golf during the coming months.

Everyone relaxed in a friendly atmosphere after the golf, enjoying the tea, coffee and baked goods provided by Evelyn Brady.

A wet bank holiday Monday saw a decent turn-out for our two-person team event.

Taking first place was Paul Shannon and Terry Kiernan with a score of 46 points. The pair dovetailed perfectly, shooting 23 points on the front nine and coming home with another 23.

In second place was Vice Captain Joe O’Hara and Paddy Byrne who shot a score of 44 points. Paddy played some outstanding golf throughout but had Joe to fall back on, chipping in when needed.
