Dundalk teacher to stand as independent candidate
,CIARAN Fisher, a well-known Dundalk teacher and football coach has announced that he is standing as an Independent candidate in the Dundalk North – Carlingford local electoral area in forthcoming local elections on June 7.
“I’ve grown up in, lived and worked in Dundalk my whole life,” he says. “I’ve always been very proud to be from here.”
He says that the town has “so much going for it” and he like to play his part in making sure the council listens and responds to the wants of the people that live in Dundalk and its environs
“I would use my voice to make sure we have a pro-active council works that get the basics right; clean streets, clear paths, promptly fixed potholes, drains etc.”
He would also like the local authority to have plan to create sporting and recreational facilities for the town’s growing population and to give positive outlets to young people and to provide “functional, usable spaces for all generations ions and those with disabilities.”
He believes that “some joined up thinking is needed in town planning to ensure that everyone can traverse spaces on foot, bike, wheelchair etc.” and he would like to see “clean and maintained tained tained spaces that are safer spaces for families and residents.”
Mr Fisher says he would also advocate for “a sensible and straight forward housing policy that contributes to the fabric of the town and localities, while enabling young people to get on the ladder.”
He also wants regular and transparent testing of the town’s drinking water supply, with the results shared with the public.
“I’ve grown up in, lived and worked in Dundalk my whole life. I’ve always been very proud to be from here.”
He says that he is “invested” vested” vested” in the town, which is why he has decided to stand in the local election, adding that his day job and voluntary work is testament to that,
A teacher in Cláiste Chú Chulainn Secondary School, he is a football coach in the Dundalk and District Leagues and volunteer manager with Bellurgan Utd. He also volunteers with Dundalk Tidy Towns and is a volunteer driver for Meals on Wheels with Dundalk Lions. In his spare time he is a sports writer for League of Ireland website ExtraTime.
