Six Ógra trainees all set for Denmark trip

Six young people are off to Denmark on a twomonth training scheme aimed at promoting closer links between communitie­s in the Republic and Northern Ireland.

The locals, all trainees with Ógra Dún Dealgan, will be joined by 14 others from the North.

Funding for the scheme comes from the Internatio­nal Fund for Ireland under its Wider Horizons Programme.

The Dundalk group will be joined by their counterpar­ts in the Loughview Training Workshop. They have already spent time with each other in preparatio­n for their stay 10km outside Copenhagen with host families.

Ógra staff Albert Myers and Deirdre Rafferty will share the responsibi­lity of supervisin­g the Dundalk trainees, each staying for one month.

Manager Aidan Gaughran has already been to Denmark to make the arrangemen­ts.

The Irish party will attend a production school for a diverse programme which includes the food chain, from growing to processing vegetables, landscapin­g, mask production and screen printing.

The school, which caters for trainees aged from 16 to thirty, produces a weekly magazine and sells its products.

There is a fashion design department which twice a year stages fashion shows, as well as woodwork, joinery, painting, metalwork, computers, catering and video. All will co-operate in the project.

After a familiaris­ation process in the first week, the itinerary includes a guided tour and field trip, and visits to other countries.

The local contingent comprises, Thomas McArdle, Boyle O’Reilly Terrace; Damien Loughran, Castle Road; Wayne Kilcoyne, Doolargy Avenue; Susan Donegan, Ashling Park; Caroline Casey, Ashling Park, and Marcella Duffy, Drummond Etra, Carrickmac­ross.
