Six Ógra trainees all set for Denmark trip
April 1994
Six young people are off to Denmark on a twomonth training scheme aimed at promoting closer links between communities in the Republic and Northern Ireland.
The locals, all trainees with Ógra Dún Dealgan, will be joined by 14 others from the North.
Funding for the scheme comes from the International Fund for Ireland under its Wider Horizons Programme.
The Dundalk group will be joined by their counterparts in the Loughview Training Workshop. They have already spent time with each other in preparation for their stay 10km outside Copenhagen with host families.
Ógra staff Albert Myers and Deirdre Rafferty will share the responsibility of supervising the Dundalk trainees, each staying for one month.
Manager Aidan Gaughran has already been to Denmark to make the arrangements.
The Irish party will attend a production school for a diverse programme which includes the food chain, from growing to processing vegetables, landscaping, mask production and screen printing.
The school, which caters for trainees aged from 16 to thirty, produces a weekly magazine and sells its products.
There is a fashion design department which twice a year stages fashion shows, as well as woodwork, joinery, painting, metalwork, computers, catering and video. All will co-operate in the project.
After a familiarisation process in the first week, the itinerary includes a guided tour and field trip, and visits to other countries.
The local contingent comprises, Thomas McArdle, Boyle O’Reilly Terrace; Damien Loughran, Castle Road; Wayne Kilcoyne, Doolargy Avenue; Susan Donegan, Ashling Park; Caroline Casey, Ashling Park, and Marcella Duffy, Drummond Etra, Carrickmacross.
