Talented local cricketer called up to regional side

-

A TALENTED local cricketer has been called up to play for a regional side in an all-Leinster Cup competition.

Eighteen-year-old Yash Verma will represent Fingal in the upcoming BUA-Kit U23 District Cup, a new multi-format provincial tournament providing young cricketers from across Leinster the chance to showcase their skills to internationally-recognised coaches and officials.

He will be coached by former Ireland international Andre Botha, who is also the current coach and pathway manager of Leinster Lightning, the most senior team in the province.

Indian-born Verma, who has registered for Dundalk Cricket Club’s 2024 season, comes to the town with a wealth of experience, having played high-level cricket in India, Australia, the UK and has also represented Oman at underage international level, having lived there for much of his childhood.

A batting all-rounder who has also played as a wicket-keeper, Verma made international headlines in 2019 when at just 14 years of age, he became one of the youngest cricketers in the world to score a century at international level, hitting 107 runs for Oman U16s against the Maldives in the Asian Cricket Council’s U16 Western Region tournament.

Currently studying in Ireland, Yash made his Dundalk debut on April 21 in their season opener away to Lucan at St Catherine’s Park.
