Mitchelstown 1-09 Dromtarriffe 0-11

Two injury time points from the boot of Sean Walsh ensured Mitchelstown progressed to the semi-final of the Bon Secours Intermediate A Football Championship at an excellent Kanturk venue on Saturday last. Dromtarriffe will rue the chances they missed, passes that went astray, the crossbar and the unbelievable save from Mitchelstown custodian Luke Hannah.

Dromtarriffe were by far the sharper and hungrier team and by the 20th minute had built up a commanding lead five point lead and but for the save and missed chances this could have been doubled. Cathal O’Mahony opened the scoring for town with a free which was quickly cancelled out but a point from play again by O’Mahony saw the half-time score 0-6 to 0-2.

The second half saw both sides again trade white flags until an opportunist goal from the evergreen Shane Beston assisted by Sean Walsh brough the Avondhu men back in contention. Both sides again scored a point each to leave just one between them heading in to the final quarter. Dromtarriffe again pushed on and landed two white flags without reply to leave three between them entering the last 10 minutes.

Mitchelstown added three points to draw level but again Dromtarriffe went up the field to record their 11th point only for Sean Walsh to register points in the 33rd and 35th minute to ensure a lucky Mitchelstown progress to play Kilshannig.
