Heavy defeat for senior footballers

-

The curtain came down on our senior football season last weekend when we suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of Rockwell Rovers in the Tom Cusack Cup played in Cahir last Saturday afternoon. It was a disappointing end for the lads especially the manner in which they faded out of the game after starting so well. We were 6 points to 2 up after 15 minutes but the tide turned when Rockwell scored their first goal. We trailed 1-10 to 0-8 at the break.

We never picked it up in the second half with a lot of our players playing below par. The Vaughan brothers Noel and Tomas and our county player Conor Sweeney battled hard for us until the final whistle sounded on a scoreline of 2-16 to 0-14.

Our scores came from Conor Sweeney (0-9), Riain O’Callaghan (0-1), Tomas Vaughan (0-1), Fionan O’Sullivan (0-1), Riain Hennessy (0-1) and Darragh Brennan (0-1).

Team: J English, S O’Callaghan, E Morrissey, J Carey, N Vaughan, D Finn, T Vaughan, T Sweeney, R O’Callaghan, F O’Sullivan, D Brennan, A Crotty, R Hennessy, C Sweeney, C English. Subs used: G Walsh and W English.

Well done to the manager and his selectors for giving time and dedication to the cause. Well done to all the players who togged out this year and we wish them the best of luck in the hurling championship.
