Our JAHC journey ends

-

Last Sunday we headed for Buttevant to take on Liscarroll/Churchtown Gaels in the semi-final of the JAHC. Conditions were fresh but they didn’t deter our supporters turning out in force.

Jamie got us on the scoreboard with a free in the 4th minute, this being the first of 7 he scored in the first half, 6 from frees and one from play. Sean Lynch also another from play which saw us going into halftime on a 0-8 to 0-9 scoreline.

The second half started on a contentious note with both teams receiving red cards and play commencing with 14 men a-side. None the less, we drove on with determination.

Darragh opened the second half scoring for us in the 6th minute, he added another in the 29th. Jamie once again showed great accuracy converting another 3 frees keeping us in with a fighting chance.

With extra time on the clock, we prayed for the ball to land in the back of the net. Alan powered a super shot but it went over the posts. Full-time saw us defeated by 4 points on a scoreline of 0-18 to 0-14.

One man notably on the sideline for the game was Brian O’Reilly due to the injury sustained in the last game. Brian was a loss to us for the game but I know his presence was an incredible support for the lads throughout the match and we wish him a speedy recovery.

For a team that were written off at the beginning of the season based on last year’s performance, to reach the semi-final and narrowly get beaten was a display to be proud of. The heart, skill and pride in the black and red jersey was evident throughout in every game in the championship. Thanks to the players and management who put in so many hours with training and coaching, you should all be very proud and we will be back for the 2023 season.
