Great effort from our U13s

-

Glenville U13s travelled to Ballinacurra on Saturday, 24th September to face Aghada in the final of the East Cork Div 1 League.

Even though Aghada had claimed victory in their first meeting with Glenville in the regular part of the league, our lads had high hopes heading into this fixture, having put together a few decent results in the run up.

On the day however despite Glenville’s best efforts, things did not go according to plan. Playing into a strong wind in the first half proved a challenge with much of the action taking place in front of the Glenville goal. Our lads fought hard and were pleased enough with only a 2-point deficit at half-time.

Glenville started the second half strongly with 2 goals in quick succession putting us 4 points up but as the game went on Aghada’s physicality proved too much. Aghada claimed the title but to be fair to the Glenville lads, there were only 3 points between the teams at the end. Glenville 3-5 Aghada 2-11.

DADS AND LADS

Dads and Lads is a social football and hurling programme for those keen to enjoy Gaelic games outside the traditional competitive structures of the GAA.

The philosophy of GAA for Dads and Lads is all about participation and the camaraderie that only team sports can offer. The small-sided adapted games allow for incidental contact only (to minimise any risk of injury) so skills are to the fore over physicality. The games are self-governed – no referees.

We recently started a Dads and Lads football and hurling group in Glenville and it has proven a great success so far, with numbers increasing every night. It’s open to all and no previous experience of playing football is required. To sign up, or for more details contact John O’Connor our PRO on 085 -7102290.

We are re-launching our text message service for 2022. Fixtures for Watergrasshill and Glenville hurling, football, camogie and ladies football matches for a yearly fee of €5. Contact Paud O’Neill 0879890964 or Barry Joyce 087-1847017.
