ST. COLMAN’S COLLEGE – PAST PUPILS UNION
The St. Colman’s College Past Pupils Union was founded in 1957. The purpose of the union was to act as a medium for graduates of St. Colman’s to be able to maintain contact with each other long after they had left.
The union has been an imported source of information for alumni regarding events within the college since it’s inception. Every year the union organises a twenty year reunion for the Leaving Certificate class of twenty years previous. This is a great occasion for past pupils who through the passage of time have lost contact with each other. Colmanites have travelled to every corner of the globe and the reunion is a means for them to reconnect with the school and peers. Traditionally this has been an important aspect of the union’s remit, particularly in an age of boarding within the college. 2023 marks the passing of 20 years since the Class of 2003 graduated from St. Colman’s. The graduating class of 2003 is an important milestone as it marks the end of the boarding era in St. Colman’s College. From 2024, each reunion will consist of only what would have traditionally been referred to as ‘day boys’. These reunions are held annually to coincide with St. Colman’s Day on the 24th of November.
Another important remit of the Past Pupils Union is to fundraise for special events and activities within the school. To this end the union hold an annual golf classic in Fermoy Golf Club. This is the main fundraiser of the union and has allowed the union to be able to make donations to our successful F1 in Schools team, our 5th year physic students trip to NASA each summer and to provide funding for the memorial plaque to Thomas MacDonagh, 1916 Rising leader and former teacher in St. Colman’s.
