Tallow GAA set to officially open community walkway on Monday
Tallow GAA are preparing to officially open their new state-of-the-art walkway facility at Páirc Eamonn De Paor and the public are invited to join the club on Monday coming, October 23 at 7.30pm.
Stretching to 550 metres in length and 2 metres in width, Tallow GAA said that the new walkway ‘is an area for the community to walk, run and to catch up with friends’. It also offers an exercise area for parents and guardians as they drop and collect their children from the pitch.
Marking the first phase of development of what is expected to be major redevelopment at the GAA grounds, works on the walkway commenced in August 2023 after the club received €17,000 from the Waterford Community Council Recognition Fund.
“This, along with fundraising throughout the year has allowed the club to finalise stage 1 of a six-stage development. This development will include a club gym, a new scoreboard, both pitches being fully railed and a stand to be completed in the near future,” a spokesperson for the club said.
Several big fundraisers held throughout the year have contributed towards the development, including the club lotto and ‘Split the Bucket’, as well as an on-the-move pub quiz and tournaments.
Fully solar-lit, the walkway offers visibility and a safe space for club members and members of the public to walk, particularly as the darker evenings approach, as well as providing an eco-friendly and cost-effective solution.
“The works were completed by Econ Solar Solutions a local company run by some of our current junior and senior hurlers. This will ensure over, particularly, the winter months that the Tallow community have a well-lit and safe place to exercise,” the spokesperson added.
To mark the completion of the first phase of the development, the official opening night will see the amenity made available to all, as the public is invited to get active with Tallow GAA on Monday, October 23 at 7.30pm at Páirc Eamonn De Paor.
“We would invite everyone to our official opening and we will have refreshments for all on the night. Following this, we aim to run community exercise initiatives over the coming months.
“We would like to thank everyone who contributed towards this facility and if anyone would like to assist in the future development, they can contact Kieran Geary on 087-6180941,” the spokesperson added.
