We actually got to play golf this week! What a pleasure to enjoy nine holes amid the drop of leaves adding to the exercise of Find the Golf Ball. Overall, there was joy in resuming competitio­n and meeting friends.

TUESDAY SENIORS DAY

The Seanóiri were out early Tuesday morning, followed by the ladies who played a nine holes Champagne Scramble.

Congratula­tions to winning team of Miriam Halley, Breda Wall and ‘new to golf’, Mary Hickey who returned 40pts. All the ladies were delighted to welcome Mary to the Tuesday competitio­n.

LADIES WEEKLY COMPETITIO­NS

It is best to keep an eye on the noticeboar­d in the ladies’ locker room for updates on competitio­n and/or the ladies WhatsApp group.

Last weekend, the nine-hole competitio­n resulted in a tight result with Breda Keating and Norma O’Brien, both playing off H/C 9 returning 18pts and Breda taking 1st place on countback.

PRIZE PRESENTATI­ON EVENING

A large crowd attended the Saturday evening prizes presentati­on occasion.

Mr John Hughes, men’s captain, presented his prizes to the ladies, following a very successful competitio­n played during the summer. The winner was Breda Wall who was thrilled to accept first prize after a long time away from golf following injury. Bar

bara Nugent received second prize, Julie Connolly won gross and Marie Keating won third prize.

Mr Stephen Costello delivered a lovely tribute to the late Noel Ahearne, a valued golfer in Cahir Park, prior to the presentati­on of the Noel Ahearne Memorial Cup to Patrick Fitzgerald who had won with a nett 65 playing off H/C 8.

Men’s Golfer of the Year winner is Vincent Bradshaw and Liam Wall, on behalf of the Wall family, presented Vincent with the Dermot Wall Memorial Cup. Congratula­tions Vincent on a very successful year.

Captain John Hughes then spoke on the very generous sponsorshi­p annually by ABP of the

weekly open singles competitio­n. Thanking ABP and welcoming Brian Fraser to present the prizes, Vice-captain Don Quill announced all the ABP Open Category winners and runners-up.

Cat 3 (14 to 21) Richie Maunsell 37 points playing off 21 (CB), Michael O’Donnell 37 points playing off 19, Peter Maguire 36 points playing off 20 (CB). Cat (22+) Richard Fahey 36 points playing off 20, Jolin O’Mahony 31 points playing off 26.

FIND THE GOLFBALL

Result of Find the Golfball draw Saturday, 4th November. The envelope drawn was for Geraldine Lyons, her number was 18. Not a winner. Geraldine received a very nice prize of one dozen Titleist Pro V1 golf balls. The next draw will be on Saturday, 11th November. The jackpot will be €540. We appeal to all members to support this fundraiser.
