Environmen­tally friendly Christmas tree recycling

Anyone looking to dispose of their natural Christmas tree, have a number of civic amenity facilities locations across the area which will cater for disposal, free of charge, during the month of January – dates vary per district.

Cork County Council are providing a free Christmas tree drop off service at our civic amenity sites up to the 31st of January 2024. Please note normal charges will apply to other materials brought for recycling/disposal.

In Zone 4 North Cork, Mallow RC will be open, with usual operating hours set to resume at amenity sites on January 4th.

WATERFORD

In Waterford, natural Christmas trees will be accepted for recycling free of charge at civic amenity sites until January 13th.

The Dungarvan site is open Monday–Thursday 8.30am – 1pm and from 1.30pm – 4pm; and on Saturdays from 9am – 12.30pm.

While the Kilbarry site opens Monday–Friday from 11am – 4pm.

LIMERICK

Limerick City and County Council-run recycling centres in Kilmallock, Newcastle West, Mungret and Gortadroma will accept natural Christmas trees for the whole month of January.

Opening hours for the Civic Amenity Centres in Mungret, Kilmallock and Newcastle West can be found at limerickre­cyclingcen­tres.ie, while Gortadroma can be contacted on 069 82339. There is a limit of two trees per car.

In addition, Limerick City and County Council is setting up three additional collection points where people can drop off their Christmas trees for recycling.

The collection points will be open from 9.30am until 3pm on the following days and locations: Saturday, 6 January - Our Lady Of Lourdes, Childers Road; Friday, 12 January - Watch House Cross Complex, Moyross and on Saturday, 13 January at Musgrave’s Car Park, Park Road, Rhebogue.

All trees will be shredded for use as bark mulch across the various parks in Limerick. There is a limit of one tree per person - this is a free service.

TIPPERARY

Christmas trees can be dropped off free of charge for recycling across Tipperary county until Saturday, 13th January at various locations (subject to opening hours). Some of those nearest, include the Council Depot at Cahir Business Park, Cahir; Clonmel Recycling Centre at Carrigeen, Clonmel; Waller’s-Lot Recycling Centre in Cashel and at Donohill Recycling Centre in Tipperary.
