The Avondhu

Competition winners from Fireside 2023

- COLOURING COMPETITION DOGDRY TRAVEL BED BOOK GIVEAWAY JIM’S 100 QUESTION QUIZ

The largest publication to date of The Avondhu’s Fireside Christmas magazine also saw the largest number of prize giveaways, with something to catch the attention of all ages.

Firstly, our children’s colouring competition attracted a good entry and well done to all school children for taking the time to complete their own coloured recreation of Gerard Harris’ front cover. Winner of the €20 goes to 2nd class pupil from Glenahulla NS, Sarah Dunne - well done!

Margaret Roche from Moher Crescent in Mitchelstown will be planning plenty of outings with a canine friend, having been drawn as winner of the versatile DogDry Travel Bed. The onesize-fits-all solution is a useful utility for any dog owner, the travel bed helping to keep cars clean when returning from winter walks, etc.

Four Courts Press were kind enough to once again team up with TheAvondhu, in offering a quality hardback publication for a reader book giveaway. ‘Michael Healy, 1873-1941 An Túr Gloine’s stained glass pioneer’ by David Caron should prove an interesting read for our three winners: Sheila Mullins, Mitchelscourt, Mitchelstown; Margaret Dunlea, Knockananig, Fermoy and Eileen Noonan, Johnstown, Fermoy.

We certainly have a knowledgeable lot reading the Fireside Christmas magazine, judging by the high standard of entries to the annual 100 question quiz, set by quizmaster Jim Lysaght. Topping the charts in 2023 was an Araglin man, congratulations going to Vincent Cahill from Lyreen.

Again, thanks are expressed to sponsor Toss Bryan, Fermoy – Vincent’s house should be spick and span with his Dyson Omni-glide Vacuum! Answers as follows:
