Let’s talk! New Peer Support Group for The Hub

-

Since it opened for its first social evening at the end of April last year, The Hub in Fermoy, located at Brian Boru Square, has been steadily proving itself to be a valuable asset to the community.

Thanks to the ongoing financial support of Cork Mental Health Foundation & Housing Association, along with the dedication of its committed volunteers, the doors of the facility have been open every weekend, offering support through socialisation from 7pm to 9pm on Friday and Saturday evenings.

PEER SUPPORT GROUP

Commencing Wednesday next, January 24th, a new initiative in the form of a weekly Peer Support Group will be rolled out at The Hub. There are many well documented benefits to joining a peer support group, some examples of which are: the reduction of feelings of isolation during illness and recovery; the therapeutic and healing effect of sharing stories/experiences with others who ‘get it’, knowing that through sharing you are aiding in the recovery of others (and vice-versa); gaining a sense of hope for the future; the reduction of self-stigmatisation and personal growth in terms of self-esteem and resilience.

This new weekly support group which is open to all adults regardless of where they are on their recovery journey, will be co-hosted by one male and one female facilitator, both of whom have personal lived experience of mental ill-health and an in-depth understanding of the challenges of living with mental ill-health and striving to recover from same.

All participants can be assured in advance of being met with compassion, empathy and understanding in a supportive and non-judgmental space.

These Peer Support Group gatherings will be held at The Hub on Wednesday evenings from 7pm to 9.30pm (which includes a break for refreshments and chat).

If you would like any further information or have any questions, please contact The Hub on 083-4728957 or email: hubfermoy@gmail.com
