SENIORS - POINTS DROPPED Park Utd 2 Buttevant 2

At Brigown Park on Friday night last in front of a decent crowd, Park seniors had a great chance to push themselves into the top six but in the end had to settle for a draw, courtesy of a late Buttevant equaliser in the 88th minute.

For the first time in a long time Park had a decent squad to choose from and started the game brightly. We found Buttevant hard to break down though, especially their keeper who was outstanding. As the first half moved into injury time we got caught on the break and out of nothing the visitors took a 1-0 lead into the break.

The second half saw Park dominate but they found it hard to break down a resilient Buttevant defence. The breakthrough came on 67 minutes when striker Tommy Dalton finished off a good move to level matters at 1-1. Park had re-shuffled the team at this stage and had the majority of the possession. This paid off on 77 minutes when Dalton added his second to give Park a 2-1 lead.

The visiting keeper was in great form stopping Park from increasing their lead on 2 occasions. This came back to haunt us, as with 2 minutes to go, Buttevant were awarded a free kick out on the left, which was expertly dispatched and found the top left hand corner to level matters at 2 apiece.

This was a cruel blow to Park and a definite 2 points dropped. Park need to pick themselves up now for this Friday night’s local derby versus Fermoy.

WALKING FOOTBALL

A total of 18 players took part in last Thursday’s session and another enjoyable session was had by all in attendance. New members to this group are most welcome. All you have to do is turn up to Brigown Park on Thursdays at 3.45 and those organising will look after you.

WELL DONE

A massive well done to all our boys and girls teams who had great wins in their respective competitions last weekend. We have numerous underage boys and girls teams competing for league honours and hopefully come the season’s end, we will have multiple champions.

SYMPATHIES

We extend our deepest sympathies to the Finn family on the passing of the late Eleanor Finn. May she rest in peace. Our prayers and thoughts are with you at this difficult time.
