It's taken a bit of time, however, our new gym is now up and running. The gym is situated in what are known as 'the old dressing rooms' and thanks to a lot of voluntary effort, the gym has come in on budget and more or less on time.

Works to date have included: new timbers for the roof, upgrading the electrics, a new door, new windows, laying a new floor, installing rubber mats, painting the interior and purchasing gym equipment. While there's still a snag list, the good news is that this facility is now seeing regular use.

Our other big investment has been the AstroTurf, which is being used extensively since it became operational last year. This is a great asset to the club and really comes into its own during the winter. Currently, the boys are doing a bit of hurling and football on the AstroTurf as they prepare for the forthcoming season.

The first meeting of the North Cork Board for 2024 takes place on Wednesday, 17th January at 8.30pm.

There was no winner of last week's lotto jackpot. Numbers drawn were: 02, 08, 28 and 32. Lucky dips to: €50 Edith Scanlon, Ballyduff; €50 John Browne Sr., Araglin; €25 Lisa McCarthy, Araglin and €25 P.J. Ahern, Cronohill, Araglin. Next lotto draw is Thursday, 18th January, in Christy's for a jackpot of €15,400.

The sequence that the lucky dip prizes appeared online last week was incorrect. Apologies for any confusion.

Thanks to Tom Leddy for the work he's doing promoting the GAA National Draw online. Tickets can be purchased online by logging on to www.foireann.ie

First prize in the draw is a Dacia Sandero, with second prize being €10,000 in cash.

As we understand it, the Cork County Board are currently in negotiatons to rebrand Páirc Uí Chaoimh. The stadium is named after Padraig Ó Caoimh (Paddy O'Keeffe) (1897-1964). Born in Roscommon and reared in Cork city, this son of an RIC officer, joined the IRA in the 1920s - he was imprisoned for his Republican activities. He was a lifelong opponent of 'foreign games', especially soccer and rugby. He was centrally involved in having the 1947 All-Ireland football final played in New York.

The next bingo in Araglin Hall takes place on Sunday, 28th January at 2.30pm. All welcome.

Araglin National School Parents' Association are organising a clothes collection shortly - all good quality items accepted.
