Festive races enjoyed

-

We had many out over the Christmas and new year and some out more than once. There was a mix of weather during these races with a mix of sunshine and monsoon rain.

In Clonmel on St Stephen’s Day there was their annual 4-mile with Michael Byrne completing it in 22:04 and Sarah Mulcahy in a time of 24:23. Two great times on a day that is always hard to get out and perform after the Christmas dinner.

On the same day there was the Rathcormac 5k, where Noel Early, Chris O’Connell, Patricia Barry, Ellie, Sara and Aidan taking part in this run on St Stephen’s Day. No results or photos but great to see a few out enjoying their day.

On to New Year’s Eve and there were 2 big races. First up was Togher 5km which moved from the normal day and as you will see in some of the photos it was monsoon weather which made for very tough running.

It still produced great times: Michael Byrne 17:35, Jim Harty 18:00, Liam Kearney 18:34, Sarah Mulcahy 18:56, Chris O’Connell 20:02 and Catherine Clancy 26:10. Superb times by all and great to see Sarah go under 19 mins.

Later in the day there was the annual New Year’s Eve Grange Fermoy 10km where runners were met with a lot of rain and wind but didn't stop our members getting out, with Noel Early 38:39, Trevor Geary 40:07, Steven Collins 42:01, Sheila Ahern 48:44 and Deborah Madden 63:20 all completing it. And good to see Trevor back out and racing after injury.

Then on to New Year’s Day where Catherine Clancy made her way to Bweeng for the IMRA Trail Run. A 10km with 330m of elevation and mud up to your knees in parts. A challenging start to the year but Catherine took it in her stride. On the same day Jonathan Kenneally was in London and took on the Serpentine 10km in Hyde Park with a finish time of 40:45 Well done to all. Hopefully, we will see many more members out taking on races in the coming weeks and months.
